The story takes place in the southeast Korean kingdom, Silla, which has been expanded by the late King Jinheung.(The entire first 50 episodes spans the political and oftentimes physical battle between Mishil and the Royal Family). An aristocrat named Mishil, whose power could rival a kings influence, desires to be queen. She has usurped part of the power from the Royal Family by convincing the people of the nation that she is Heavens Maiden. She uses this influence to gain followers in the court so that she can eventually gain the title of Queen despite her meager blood. One opportunity comes when the wife of King Jinheungs grandson, Jinpyeong, gives birth to twin girls. Because of Mishil, King Jinpyeong had to abandon one of this twin daughters because it was prophecized hundreds of years previously that the Sacred Bone male heirs would diminish when a King had Twins.

Lady Mishil (미실, 美室, ? ~ ?) merupakan seorang wanita figur sejarah di Silla. Ia adalah seorang figur yang paling penting di dalam transkripsi Hwarang Segi.
Menurut Hwarang Segi, ia adalah putri Lord Mijinbu, dengan ibu ayahnya adalah Puteri Samyeop, putri Raja Beopheung. Ibunya adalah Lady Myodo, saudara perempuan Ibu Suri Sado (permaisuri Raja Jinheung. Dengan hubungan-hubungan tersebut, Mishil mendapatkan kualifikasi untuk menjadi seorang jingol (眞骨 진골 seorang bangsawan di antara sistem ranking tulang).

According to Sillas history, Lady Mishil was a lover to some Pungwolijus, and a concubine to the three kings of Silla. She was one of the most important figures in the Kingdoms history.
She was a daughter of a Lord named Mijinbu, with her fathers mother being princess Samyeop, daughter of king Beopheung (Note: please dont be discouraged by the confusing names! I do not know them that much as well, but you must continue to read about this interesting Lady Mishil. *giggles*) . Her mother was the Lady Myodo, sister of the queen mother Sado , a concubine of king Jinheung. With these relations, Mishil gained the qualifications of being a jinggeol a noble within the bone rank system or in simple words, something like the second rank after the main members of a royal family.

Mishil (c. / – c. ) was a Silla aristocrat whose historical existence is debatable. According to the Hwarang Segi, she was a concubine to several kings and, along with her aunt Queen Sado, played an instrumental role in dethroning King Jinji. However, it has been questioned whether Misil was truly a historical figure, as she is only mentioned in the Hwarang Segi, and not in the historical texts Samguk Sagi or Samguk Yusa.

[edit]According to the Hwarang Segi, Mishil was the daughter of Lord Mijinbu and Lady Myodo, a sister of Queen Sado, the consort of Jinheung of Silla. Her paternal grandmother was Princess Samyeop, daughter of King Beopheung. Due to her lineage, Mishil was a member of the jingol (진골; 眞骨), or the noble true bone caste.
